For next year, the club has organized a boat trip to the Channel Islands,
for fishing around the island of Alderney. It’s a four day trip from
June 15th. There will be a variety of fishing and wrecking on the way over,
Day 2&3 will be drifting over the banks for turbot and bass, and the last
day will be wrecking on the way back to fill the freezers. This will include
three nights B\B on the island. There is a saving club for those of you who
would wish to put a couple of bob away.
There are only three places available, so please contact the Club secretary,
who will give you more details, of deposit required, and savings club.
Well done to Josh Williamson one of our Junior members
who represented Wales at the recent Home International in Ireland. Josh won
the event on Day 1 and overall Wales won the silver medal- well done from
all members of the club
Brian Moss also represented the Welsh Federation of Sea Anglers in the Home
International Boat event at Weymouth, Wales only
missed out by a single fish but Brian came away with a very respectable silver
medal losing the Gold by a single fish - well done to you
The club encountered some very poor fishing with a 6 day tour to South Coast
staying in Torquay. in total 12no.travelled on the Wednesday with the remainder
joining the group on the Thursday morning. We have been to the hotel twice
before and as always were given a tremendous welcome by Sarah and Phil and
the rest of the Staff
The food sales went through the roof as Steve filled his face with ice creams,
cockles and kebabs in no particular order
The first day's fishing on Princess Pier produced some specimen wrasse right
underneath the rod tip, but the weather put pay to the day with very high
winds
On Day 2 we ventured to Hope's Nose not a venue for the faint hearted, Mike
took the wrong turning going on a wild goose chase with all his gear and Malcolms
bait, eventually he turned up minus his gear but with the bait as we were
gonna sell Mal some sandeels £30 each. On the day dogfish , bass, small
pollack, wrasse and stacks of good size mackeral which went back for the BBQ.In
the evening Nigel the barman took us out to a few of his local drinking holes
ending up following Steve to the kebab shop. On Day 3 we fished Shaldon beach
on the Tynemouth estuary where the weed became a pain in the butt, all that
was caught were small wrasse. In the evening we started in the Irish bar on
the harbour, where Dennis insisting on upsetting a few of locals by just sitting
by them. Phil was a little upset at us for not going to the Hole in the Wall
pub- the toys really came out.
Mark decided to leak his face all over the mat of the taxi, it really was
an expensive huwwey costing him£30
The following day the fishing got worse, fishing Ness beach which was just
full of crab, two small wrasse was the total caught. In the evening we went
to the local steak bar and back to the hotel for a few night caps.
Overall a great trip, poor fishing and any suggestions for next year ????
